ROBOTS: Hand finished by robot

Performing a delicate touch with articulated robotics

Sticking metal to glass isn't as simple as all that, there are a number of factors in play that want this to not happen. Sticking a metal object with many holes against a curved glass surface with potential contamination on metal and glass proved to be a very tricky thing to accomplish.

Multiple systems need to be ready to ensure that the machine always has a fresh subject in a known position ready to be applied. We needed to sort the metal badges and have a reliable way to apply them to a freshly deposited adhesive and then give a gentle press to ensure the adhesive and subject were in a position ready for curing the glue.

At top speed the pick and place system works with a cycle time of less than a second, providing reliable, repeatable badge application every time.
